COMMEMORATION OF 16 DAYS OF ACTIVISM AGAINST GBV: THE GENDER BASED VIOLENCE PUBLIC TALK IN ZANZIBAR

The main objective of this event was to raise awareness on Gender Based Violence while focusing on Teenagers' and children rights. The event was also intended to promote the action of NGO and influential individuals working on Gender Equality including CARE International in Tanzania, Zanzibar 1st Lady, Hope for Girls and Women, TAI Tanzania, Save the Children, LHRC, DKT, Doris Mollel Foundation etc.

 

CARE Tanzania participation and contribution:

 

The organization is represented by three (3) staff including the Country Director to the series of
Panelist to the Protection of Victims & Access to justice Discussion 

planned events from 2nd -3rd December 2022 in Zanzibar: Specifically:

 

I.           CARE has provided financial support to the organizers (TAI Tanzania) hence secure visibility on the sponsors Wall Banner.

II.         CARE through the Country Director will talk part in the public Talk session titled “Prevention of abuses, Access to Justice, protection of the victims”   

III.        CARE participated in the prepared press conference on 2nd Dec 2022

IV.       CARE joined other stakeholders to watch the 1-hour Animation cartoon film focusing on Gender Equality

 
Key take away:

The series of the planned events was an opportunity to amplify the work of CARE Tanzania specific on Gender Equality and its contribution to reduction of GBV. Also, CARE had opportunity to network with potential partners working in Zanzibar including meeting the 1st Lady Madam Mariam Mwinyi which is very strategic for the upcoming projects.

Khadija: A Beacon of Hope for Girls' Education in Somalia

CARE supports girls in Somalia to access education and to stay in school. At just 16, Khadija* has achieved something remarkable: she became the top student in Jubaland state, Somalia, in the national Grade 8 exams. Her success is a personal victory and a powerful testament to the transformative impact of the Girls' Education and Empowerment Program (GEEPS) in Somalia. One that may not have been reali z ed due to circumstances beyond her control.     Khadija , born into a big family in Kismayo, knows firsthand the struggles girls face in Somalia. DRC: Local Women group's advocacy influencing the health center to be built

The Faida Yetu RAVEC, of which Fabiola is a member, is made up of women who advocate for the implementation of the joint plan to improve the health center (CS) in Kaduki (Sake).
